'The management of the river's environment will promote a diverse and sustainable environment that will be of benefit to the economy, ecology and community of the Dale'

The Project worked towards this vision through the following:

developing a co-ordinated approach to the River's management
enhancing wildlife habitat and biodiversity, to ensure that the River and its tributaries continue to provide habitats for internationally, nationally and locally important species
improving fishery productivity by encouragement of habitat for indigenous species
promoting management practices that will help to stabilise the volume of water carried by the river
safeguarding water quality
managing public access to riverbanks
helping to safeguard the economy of the area
improving understanding of the river environment amongst land managers, local people, agencies and visitors in order to promote interest in its management
seeking opportunities for continuing management once this phase of the project draws to a close
