We imported the digitised Ordnance Survey Map ( YDNPA OS
License Agreement) into the Local Studies program. The children
used the special tools provided in the program to draw the
route they walked on the survey. They measured how far they
had walked using the on-screen trundle wheel tool. It showed
that they had walked about 4 km.
A
set of photographs were taken with the school digital camera.
Using the pin markers in the program, the children selected
photographs and wrote about them. In the Local Studies program
these pin markers are 'hot spots' - clicking on them opens
the page with the photograph and their descriptive text.
Map features
We looked at the maps and learnt about the special features
of a river.

Making our own maps
We looked at the Ordnance Survey map and
traced our route.
We learnt
the meanings of local place names.
We found out
where the river came from, and where it was going.
We looked
at local land and building use.
We drew our own maps using MS Paint and added our own key.
